14- July-1999 Arvind Dave is appointed Governor of Arunachal Pradesh.
21- July-1999 Bansi Lal, Haryana Chief Minister, quits before seeking a trust vote; and rebels form a separate party.
21- July-1999 The Janata Dal splits under Deve Gowda and Sharad Yadav. The latter group to support NDA.
22- July-1999 J. H. Patel, Karnataka Chief Minister, recommends dissolution of the Assembly and the Governor Khurshid Alam Khan accepts it. Earlier Mr. Patel drops eight Ministers including the Deputy Chief Minister Siddharamiah.
24- July-1999 Om Prakash Chautala is sworn in the Chief Minister of Haryana, and will seek trust vote on July 27.
24- July-1999 Vimala Ranadive (84), senior CPI(M) leader, died in Mumbai.
28- July-1999 Shiv Sena president Bal Thackeray is banned from voting and contesting in any election for six years from December 11, 1995 on the recommendations of the Election Commission.
29- July-1999 Bandh in Mumbai to protest against the verdict barring Bal Thackeray from voting and contesting any election till December 10, 2001.
